Geekly World News – February 4, 2016

Welcome back to Geekly World News, our round-up of all the biggest news from the world of comics, video games, movies, and more.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been announced by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games, alongside a really charming trailer based on the original trailer for the movie. In addition to the events of the film, the upcoming game will also include elements that fill in the time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. I’m curious to see what that entails when the game is released on June 28, 2016 for a wide variety of platforms.

Geekly World News – January 30, 2016

Welcome back to Geekly World News, our round-up of all the biggest news from the world of comics, video games, movies, and more.

JLA
The Justice League is coming back to television with Justice League Action, a new animated series currently in the works at Cartoon Network. Bleeding Cool reports that the format will be similar to Teen Titans Go!, in that each episode will be comprised of two 11-minute shorts. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are reprising their roles of Batman and the Joker, respectively, though we do not yet know who will be voicing Superman and Wonder Woman. As a big fan of the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated shows, I can’t wait to see if this new show captures that magic once again.

Geekly World News – January 27, 2016

Welcome back to Geekly World News, our round-up of all the biggest news from the world of comics, video games, movies, and more.

The first footage of Wonder Woman, the upcoming movie staring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins, has been revealed, and I think it looks great so far. I think the WWI setting is a brilliant choice, and Gal Gadot seems like a great fit for the role. I’m excited to see how it all turns out when the movie is released on June 23, 2017.

Geekly World News – January 22, 2016

Welcome back to Geekly World News, our round-up of all the biggest news from the world of comics, video games, movies, and more.

Let’s get things started today with the new trailer for Suicide Squad, staring Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto as the Joker.

I have to admit that I haven’t personally been very excited for this film until now, but this is a very good trailer. Now we just have to wait and see if the movie itself will be able to match the fun of the clever editing around Bohemian Rhapsody found in the trailer. Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer and comes to theatres on August 5, 2016.

Cupcakes & Lighter Fluid – Dark Souls – 24: Pinwheels for Everyone

James reaches the ground floor of the Catacombs and deals with the many-faced master of Necromancy who lies within… today on C&L!

Geekly World News – January 20, 2016

Welcome to the first ever edition of the Geekly World News, the Rogues’ Gallery’s news round up!

First up, we have the trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, the surprise sequel to 2008’s Cloverfield.
The trailer features John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr., and notably does not feature the found footage style of the first film. The film is directed by up-and-comer Dan Trachtenberg, and I’ve been looking forward to seeing what he can do with a feature length film since he released the short film Portal: No Escape in 2011. Now I’ll finally have my answer on March 11th of this year when the film is due to be released.

Papers, Please: A Glorious Review

A talented writer in his own right, this week honorary Rogue, Kevin, drops by to give us his take on the doubleplusgood (and bad) qualities of indie darling Papers, Please!

I like creativity in a video game. Moral choice systems that actually affect the gameplay, level design that forces you to get out of your comfort zone, and rogue-like elements that randomize your encounters really add to that beloved sense of immersion that I always find myself desperately seeking. A good film can make us look at a social issue in a different light, and a good song can make us appreciate problems we’ve never considered. A good, creative video game is no different. Spec Ops: The Line made me re-examine the entire player-character relationship, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell handed me a gun and then forced me not to use it.
